For this assignment I can see the theme of power and control in this play. At the beginning of the play while on the “ship” you can see an argument engage between several workers. Boatswain tells Gonzalo to use his authority to take over the ship. Later there shoving between Boatswain and Sebastian shows the lack of authority from Gonzalo. This power he has isn’t being “used” for the guys on the ship. Not everyone seems to be set to be in command when given the chance. Lack of power and control is shown in this scene. You can see the theme of power and control circulate in just the first few scenes and plenty more in the scenes that will follow up on this play. The way the characters act can see the adaptation to this theme, the pushing between Boatswain and Sebastian shows lack of control from the authority set in charge which is Gonzalo.
