Blog post #4 The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas, Ursula K. Le Guin’s.
When making the annotation for the story “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas” by Ursula K. Le Guin, my intent was to show how the author develops a social “dilemma”, more exactly how the Omelas society depends on the suffering of one individual. As we read this story, we get to know that we are being told the story of a family from one of member point of view, being of the most recurrent topics, his brother Sonny, how we were a problematic kid that went to jail but get rehabilitated into the society and become a jazz musician. Culler in the ¨Paradox of literature¨ section, explains how literature don’t necessarily follow a specific set of rules, and instead is in a constant evolution. Literature involves the reader interpreting their text with a degree of understanding above regular text, in order to understand the meaning of what author is trying to communicate.
