Culler in the ¨Paradox of literature¨ section, explains how literature don’t necessarily follow a specific set of rules, and instead is in a constant evolution. Literature involves the reader interpreting their text with a degree of understanding above regular text, in order to understand the meaning of what author is trying to communicate. Poems like ¨Parsley¨ by Rita Dove, takes the reader to at cane field, where the owner of this field, has a outstanding love for their mother, and in the other hand it shows a lack feeling towards his workers/slaves, where main characteristics of this character are his huge love for its mother and the other his ¨inhumanity¨. “The Sea is History” by Derek Walcott, it is most likely to make the reader to make some research of some specific words and examples to have a better understanding of it, using many historical and religion references, and they way the author makes this poem, with a pronounced uses of metaphors making the reader, having a more engaging experience.
