    The play opens and the theme of “Power and Control” is clearly introduced. The power of nature is shown by the storm which is being controlled by Ariel which they themselves are being controlled by Prospero. Prospero is the most powerful due to studies and magic and their ability to manipulate the island and its spirits. Thus controlling circumstances and people. This theme of power and control appears in if not all but almost each scene of the play, The Tempest.

    What Culler means about paradox of literature is that it contradicts itself, it says one thing but it doesn’t mean it literally. The readers can interpret it however they choose to, like in “Crossing the Brooklyn Ferry”. The way the writer describes as knowing a stranger beautifully, it’s the irony of knowing absolutely nothing but the feeling of knowing everything. The writers have expressed in different examples of showing paradox of literature, by telling us how they feel, see or think though the poems, that may use metaphors and compares the situations to something that wouldn’t make sense but in the context of the poem make it seem more relatable.…

    ”The Soul selects her own Society — and ”The Brain— is wider than the sky—Then — shuts the Door — For— put them side by side—”To her divine Majority —Present no more —” When it comes to reading poems they can be interpreted in many different ways by it’s readers. When reading these poems in order to get an understanding of just these small parts I have to reread over again to understand the entirety of the poems.
