Summary

Based on the story of Morrison, "Recitatif", we can see that the author is not showing ambiguity. Since Mary has a slightly different perspective on people of color. simply because Twyla mentioned that her mother would stop dancing. She would do this just to say that they (people of color) never wash their hair and they smell quite strange. we can insinuate or assure that there is still a problem or a kind of rejection towards people of color because of the way Roberta tells Twyla what they were like in those days. It also implies that she “Roberta” knew that there could be some kind of problem or a rejection of her because of her skin color. That's why she mentions it to Twyla that way.
