Freedom and Imprisonment The theme I chose is Freedom and Imprisonment and this can been seen in one of the scene from the adaptation, where Ariel a spirit who can appear in different forms, was also rescued from Prospero due to the previously witch imprisoned him. He can use his magic/ abilities to do all what Prospero tell him to do, just to seek for his liberty/ freedom, as they agreed, since every time Ariel disobeys, Prospero reminds him that he was the one who saved him and also mentions that he can obtain his freedom if he obeys. This situation for example can be observed when Prospero told Ariel…

Blog 4 ~ The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas

The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas is a story related to an ethical dilemma, where the “perfect” happiness of the Omelas society depends upon the suffering of a vulnerable individual. Based on this, it was that I guided my annotations. Each of them guides us to a specific fact where a vulnerable individual, who in the story is a child the one who represents this situation because he is mistreated and lives in awful conditions only so that the people of Omelas have a life of “quality”. One good example is when the author emphasizes “Some of them understandwhy, and some do not, but they all understand that their…

    Blog 3 ~ Sonny’s Blues

As we know, the author said that he saw in the newspaper that Sonny (his brother) was arrested because he was selling heroin. This is something that for clear reasons left him in shock and he was afraid of what could happen to Sonny and starts feeling somehow guilty, thinking that probably he was the reason why Sonny did what he did (It is important to clarify that the brother and Sonny had a conversation about the heroine and the good feeling that it produces), that’s why he overthinks this a lot while the story unfolds. However, despite this incident, the brother is still in contact with Sonny through letters.…

Culler says that literature is a paradoxical institution because “proofs” (or how he says it: formulas) of the topic that is going to be developed are needed to create literature and this also needs to follow some conventions. However, literature is sometimes about who expresses their limits, criticizes different points of view and own thoughts. That said, Culler may refer to this whole literature thing as somewhat paradoxical, as it contradicts itself a bit by saying that literature must have certain conventions and rules/formulas to follow, but at the same time you can observe literature outside of these parameters and it is still literature. Poems like Crossing Brooklyn Ferry, Parsley…

Blog post 1 ~ Poems instances

Poem 1 The Brain is Wider than the Sky (“For-hold them-Blue to Blue- “& “The one the other will absorb- As Sponges—Buckets—do-”) These parts of the poem can be interpreted as the brain being incredible, capable of doing things, and has a great capacity to store, retain, and absorb ideas and thoughts. I feel that this is why the comparison can be made with the sea (this is how I draw conclusions and build up my interpretation) because the sea is very big, and deep and can “keep” and maintain anything that falls into it.  For example, when it says “For-hold them-Blue to Blue-“, it can be taken as referring to the thoughts/ideas that…

    Introduction

Hi, I’m Mariana Jaramillo, I’m 22 years old, and I was born in Cali, Colombia. Currently, I live in Queens with my three dogs and my biggest hobby is cooking, I enjoy making desserts and mostly cakes. On the other hand, I study veterinary technology and work in a veterinary clinic, but I would like to work in a zoo in the future. I plan to finish my major and take the corresponding exam to get my license as a veterinary technician. Finally, after doing this, I would like to move to another place like California, because working in zoos there is a little easier than in New York and more…
