Freedom and Imprisonment plays a major role in the play The Tempest. This theme is shown in the adaptation. Caliban and the sprite Ariel experience what it feels like to be imprisoned. Ariel was rescued from Prospero since he became imprisoned by an evil witch that once ruled the island. After being released he felt like it was his duty to prove his freedom. When Ariel disobeys Prospero often reminds him of how he saved him and if he does what he is told then freedom can be obtained. On the other hand Caliban still remains enslaved and imprisoned while Prospero still rules over the land.
