Sonny and his brother had not seen each other in a while it seems like, and the parents had died in the process but Sonny claims to be happy but in reality is embarrassed of what he became. Sonny wants to play the instruments which unfortune led to his uncle killed as he was out performing that day. It showed how dangerous it was for their family and how even while trying to be in a safe place, that “safe” place never existed. How just wanting to do something you enjoy bring so much trouble, and even worse when you didn’t do anything wrong and was minding your own business. Sonny even risked not finishing school as he wanted to join the army just to escape from Harlem because of how it could get down there. I feel like Sonny just wanted some change and that have the chance to face the same faith as his parents.
