Reading the story shows the the life of Sonny through his brother’s perspective. The Author is using a repetitive pattern of imagery, describing the moments in way the reader can feel as if they are there with him. We see the story progressing from when Sonny got booked for distributing and suffering from a heroin addiction, to him finding his passion and love for jazz music. The way the imagery is used in the story shows that the brother and Sonny are going through different stages in their life. This story reflects on the relationship that we have with our loved ones, despite the situations that happen and feeling guilty. My annotations pin point the struggles that the 2 brothers go through in a tough area such as Harlem where they are surrounded by things that may not put them on the right path, but also trying to connect with those that we have lost touch with due to the circumstances.
