Culler is talking about how literature is always evolving and there isn’t a specific standard or “formula” to literature and how it should be written. Literature is often about how someone expresses themselves, their thoughts and feelings. The poems Crossing Brooklyn FerryParsley, and The Sea is History all described how one individual is experiencing a moment in their life that is meaningful to them. They are expressing to the reader that there can be a relation with the description within the literature.  There isn’t a set formula on how author can express themselves through their writing which makes it paradox. The Sea is History is a bit different as the writing seems to be more of a reference from the Bible in The New Testament.
