The book I choose is “Recitatif” by Toni Morrison, I had to first read the story to get a vivid picture of what the author was talking about. The passage emphasizes the transformative power of shared memories. The way Morrison crafts the character description is so clever, it challenges the reader to confront their assumptions by leaving race ambiguous and focusing on universal human features, The author invite us to see Twyla and Roberta as individuals first in the beginning of the story. The changing perceptions over time add another surface showing how our views can evolve. which really plays with the stereotypes we might hold. It’s all about questioning those preconceptions we carry.
